This month, we are celebrating a special anniversary: 60 years of TFA Dostmann – 60 years of success in developing and manufacturing high-quality weather and climate measuring instruments.
What began in 1964 as a “technical factory for valves” is now an internationally renowned family business with firm roots in the Tauber Valley and a clear focus on the demands of the world market.
Products from the heart of the Tauber Valley to the world
Our success story and history began with the vision of Heinz Dostmann, who produced the first max/min thermometers and patented innovative weather instruments in Kreuzwertheim. Our company grew rapidly and in 1966 we moved to larger premises in Reicholzheim – a location that is still our home today. By 1985, we had 100 employees who, together with us, shaped the future of TFA Dostmann.
In the 1990s, Axel Dostmann took over the management and brought a breath of fresh air into our company. With a clear vision, he expanded our range considerably and we tapped into new markets. Since then, innovative product ideas and our own design have been at the heart of our company philosophy. To make producing our electronic instruments more efficient, we established production facilities in Asia and ensure the highest quality standards with branches in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
A milestone in our logistics was the opening of a modern logistics centre at Reinhardshof, Wertheim, in 2015. Today, an automated shuttle system enables us to efficiently deliver over 1,000 different products to customers in more than 80 countries.
Milestones in our product development
We have continuously developed our products over the years – from simple household thermometers to classic barometers and weather stations to digital and web-based applications. With our technology, design and functionality, we routinely set trends in the measurement of weather, indoor climate, temperature and time.
Today, we offer a wide range of solutions that go far beyond traditional weather and climate measurement. Our products range from measuring instruments for your home and garden that are suitable for everyday use to professional solutions and design-oriented home accessories. We combine technical precision with modern style.
Just in time for our anniversary, we are presenting our innovative TFA.me system: modern Wi-Fi weather stations that make locally measured data available worldwide. This product line currently includes three weather stations that enable precise weather forecasts based on professional data from the German weather service provider wetter.com. With up to 40 weather symbols, warning functions for dangerous weather conditions and the option of integrating up to 50 additional radio transmitters, we are once again setting new standards in weather monitoring.
Sustainability and regional responsibility
Sustainability is one of our core values. Since 2021, we have been covering around 40% of our own electricity needs with a photovoltaic system on our company building. We are also constantly working to reduce the ecological footprint of our packaging and product alternatives.
As a company firmly rooted in the Tauber Valley, we are proud to have been a reliable employer in the region for six decades and to offer attractive career opportunities. Our values – communication, loyalty and sustainability – shape our corporate culture and create a working environment in which our employees feel comfortable. Modern workplaces, flexible working hours and targeted training opportunities are a matter of course for us. We specifically support young talent with training and study programmes and shape a successful future together.
Looking ahead
With a passion for innovation and a clear commitment to quality and user-friendliness, we are well prepared for the challenges of the future. The last 60 years have been an impressive history. This makes us proud and also motivates us to continue breaking new ground.
Our products combine cutting-edge technology with stylish design, making us one of the leading suppliers of meteorological instruments and measuring devices for home, hobby and work – today and in the future.
