What does Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR) mean for us as a manufacturer?

The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) has been in force since 13 December 2024. This ensures that all products placed on the market in the EU are subject to a certain safety standard and describes how to attach necessary warning signs, safety information and content for user instructions.

We, TFA Dostmann GmbH & Co. KG, based in 97877 Wertheim, Germany, accept this responsibility and ensure that our products are considered safe in accordance with Article 3 of Regulation (EU) 2023/988. They pose no or only minimal risks with normal or foreseeable use. These risks are considered acceptable by us and correspond to a high level of protection for the health and safety of our consumers. For products that fall under harmonised standards, you can find our CE declarations of conformity on EU declaration of conformity (im Suchfeld mit Eingabe unserer Katalognummer). (by entering our catalogue number in the search field). For products that do not fall under the harmonised EU standards, we have prepared an internal risk analysis that we provide to authorities on request, as required by the regulation.

We thus ensure that we assume all manufacturer obligations and declare that we bear sole responsibility for our products.

In the following, we have assessed the safety of our product groups with regard to their physical, mechanical and chemical properties and any resulting hazards for consumers.

Glass products do not belong in the hands of children. In the event of glass breakage, all glass splinters must be carefully collected and disposed of.

Our Galileo thermometers are made of glass. Set them up in a stable and safe location (risk of tipping over) and keep a greater distance from any edges. Follow the safety and disposal instructions in the manual.

Our bath thermometers are not toys. You can find instructions for their safe use on the products.
Thermometers with glass capillaries contain very small amounts of thermometer liquid. Wipe up the liquid with a paper towel and dispose of it in your household waste. The easiest way to remove stains is with a solvent-based cleaner or household spirit.

Insertion thermometers for food or laboratories usually have a pointed insertion probe. Keep and store these out of the reach of children. Appropriate caution is advised when using these thermometers.
Metal roasting thermometers and metal temperature probes that remain in your oven or cooking chamber can become very hot. Allow them to cool down before touching or cleaning them, or use protective gloves.

Metal and plastic products may have sharp edges that could cause injury if not used properly.
Our plastic products are free from prohibited plasticisers. Our wooden thermometers and weather stations come from sustainably managed forests from FSC-certified timber merchants (About Us – Pollmeier).

Wooden products may have wood splinters if damaged. Check their surfaces for damage before use.
Some products come with small mounting materials (screws, self-adhesive tape, etc.). Keep these away from children.

Dispose of packaging and batteries in accordance with the disposal instructions on the packaging or instructions. Please also observe the disposal instructions for electronic products.

Read the instructions and follow our safety instructions. Use the products only as intended. You can find the instruction manuals on our website (by entering our catalogue number in the search field) or enclosed with the product.

Generally, our products are packed in boxes. When unpacking, there is a risk of cutting yourself on the edges of the box. When shipped on pallets, the wood can splinter. If you use film to wrap the pallet, please be aware that this could pose a suffocation risk for children.

If you have any questions about the safe use of our products, please do not hesitate to contact our customer service team.
